Seeking Advice – Little Miracles – Our Story #2

A few words from an encouraging friend gave me the vision I needed to start pursuing the idea, that I believe God placed on my heart, to develop a line of Christian dolls. My next step was seeking advice from trusted friends and business experts. I set up a meeting with one of my best friend’s parents, whom I believed could give me some solid advice.

In the meantime, I built more on the story lines that had developed in my mind over the past two years. I also finalized a name, logo and tag line. I sketched it all out and went to visit with my mentors.

They immediately liked the idea and gave me practical advice on how to start. My friend’s dad said he thought I should get the stories written, make or purchase 20 dolls and take them to an event that would happen the following summer to test the market and see if this was something in which little girls and their parents would be interested.  I took that advice and ran with it! I needed a concrete direction for moving forward and that is what they provided.

One of the first little miracles God used to show me His hand in this project came when I asked a friend if she would be interested in writing a children’s story. I had been praying for God to give me ideas of people to ask. I had the story lines in mind, but didn’t think I had the ability to actually write the book. One name kept coming to mind every time I prayed. I didn’t know this person very well at the time, but just had a feeling she would be a good writer. I didn’t contact her right away, I just prayed God would give me an appropriate opportunity to talk with her. One day, in the pot luck line at church she just happened to be in front of me. I said, “I have an unusual question for you. Have you ever thought about writing a book?” She looked at me with a smile and said, “You know, that is something I have always wanted to do! I’ve never tried to before but I’ve always thought that I would someday.” So, we met a week or two later and I explained the idea for the dolls and the storylines, and the rest is history.

From leading me to Godly people who gave me sound business advice, to impressing me with the name of a person who had always wanted to write, God has been at work in this project from the very beginning.
